Robin Morrish, TPS President, writes:
Tony Gould was a man of exceptional integrity, both as a person and a musician.
On my arrival in Tonbridge in 1970 he straightway invited me to lead the Tonbridge Philharmonic Orchestra, which thus began my long-lasting involvement with the Philharmonic Society.
Meanwhile he was my concurrent colleague on the music staff at Tonbridge School, where he likewise distinguished himself, both as teacher and performer, before his appointment as Head of Music at the City of London School. His quiet, unassuming personality commanded immediate respect and authority. Whether as conductor or at the keyboard as pianist and organist, his music making always produced the ‘Midas touch’ of pure gold.
He leaves a great gap in our musical lives.
