Tonbridge Philharmonic Society and Tonbridge Round Table were delighted to be able to host our traditional Family Carols at the atmospheric Chapel of St. Augustine, Tonbridge School again this year, after the online festive montage of 2020. The event took place in support of two well deserving charities: FEAST (a Tonbridge based food project) and Little Braintrust (a brain cancer charity), the day before the Government’s Plan B Covid rules took effect. Children from Woodlands Primary school joined us again and performed two rousing carols, complete with tambourine accompaniment. Under the direction of our excellent new Music Director, Naomi Butcher, the TPS choir sang a selection of traditional and modern carols that were beautifully performed. Tickets for this popular local event sold out as quickly as ever, but to ensure social distancing was maintained our audience was necessarily smaller than in pre-pandemic years. However, none of these restrictions could lessen the enthusiasm with which carols were sung by both choir and audience alike, even with masks on! Judging by the resounding applause we received this is clearly an event that has been much missed and we all fervently hope that we will be singing together again in December 2022.
