100+ choir members

We are always interested in enquiries from potential new members, and review the complement of voices on a regular basis in order to maintain the optimum balance. We are particularly happy to hear from prospective new Tenors and Basses!

The friendly and welcoming Choir is made up of over one hundred singers. While there is no audition to join, members are expected to have a basic ability to follow music and the readiness to practise at home between rehearsals. Each voice is broken down into two sections, reflecting the nature of the works that the Society performs. Rehearsals are at 7.45 on Wednesday evenings, in Tonbridge School.

The Choir takes part in three concerts each year, together with a (usually sold out) Family Carols event in December.

Review 1 It was a welcome return for the combined forces of the Tonbridge Philharmonic choir and orchestra after a two and a half year absence, in a challenging programme of choral music both a cappella and with orchestral accompaniment. The European flavour to the concert was set from the opening motet Abendlied by Rheinberger which was performed with a warm firm sound by the choir, with lots of vocal colour and a lovely blend. Any uncertain entries were fully dispelled in two of Holst’s Six...

REVIEW: VIVALDI GLORIA/MENDELSSOHN SCOTTISH

What a joyful and happy reunion took place in the School Chapel on Saturday night! Performers, choir and orchestra, and audience alike joined in the spirit of the Psalmist and composer, Hubert Parry: we were united in the gladness of entering the House of the Lord to celebrate together after many months of isolating lockdown. To crown the glory of the event, we welcomed the arrival of our wonderful new Director of Music, Naomi Butcher, whose energy and enthusiasm immediately invigorated the...
