Choral weekly update 27.09.21

So far we have remained virus free. Please may I remind you of the Covid protocol and strongly encourage you to take a lateral flow test before coming to rehearsal.

COVID SAFETY:
Thanks to everyone for following the guidelines last week. Please remember:

  1. If possible, complete a lateral flow test in the 24 hours before you attend a rehearsal. Do not come if your test is positive, and follow government advice. These are available from chemists and can be ordered online by clicking the link above.
  2. We can provide good ventilation in the chapel by having the doors open, and this will reduce risk – it may be a bit cold later in the year!
  3. When you attend a rehearsal, please wear a mask entering the building, and until you sit down at the very least. This is government advice, and seems to make sense. Also put on a mask if moving around during the interval and on leaving. If you wish to sing with a mask on that is absolutely fine too.
  4. As far as is practical, try to maintain a 6 feet distance between you and other choir members. In the pews this means not sitting directly behind another person, and a maximum of 4 or 5 people per pew.
  5. If you do develop symptoms of Covid 19 after you have been to a rehearsal, please inform Jo (depchchair@tonphil.org.uk) or me (chchair@tonphil.org.uk), so that we can assess what risks there might be to the rest of the choir, and what action we should take.

I must apologise again to those on Zoom as we couldn’t get it to work at all last week. Ken has been back to the school and we have now isolated the issue. It will mean that we will have to use a mobile phone for the short term.

Last week we reorganised the 1st and 2nd voices in each section and Naomi stood on the rostrum we use for concerts, so I hope these were improvements. Please pass any feedback on this via your voice reps.

A reminder that we still need voice reps for tenors and basses. Please speak to me if you can help with this.

Rehearsal on September 29th – there are no parking restrictions this week.

We will be begin working on the Et in Terra Pax movement of the Vivaldi Gloria. There are clips of individual parts on Youtube for the Gloria and don’t forget that many of you have access to the John Fletcher rehearsal website. In the next weeks we will cover:

  • October 6th Gratias Agimus Tibi
  • October 13th Qui Tollis
  • October 20th Quoniam Tu Solus Sanctus

We will continue with Parry’s I Was Glad too. Scores have been provided. There are spares if you weren’t there last week.
Please take time to look at both of these before the rehearsal. Please bring a pencil to mark in the instructions Naomi gives us. I will make sure there are some spare next week. Not everyone appeared to be marking their scores last night.
Bring your European Sacred Music book. This week we will be doing Rheinberger’s Abendlied. Here is a link if you do not have the book, so you can print it off at home.
